i just finished the first novella in king's different seasons: 'rita hayworth and the shawshank redemption' and i definitely enjoyed it much more that i thought i would. i have always written stephen king off as a throw away writer; in the same category as other frivolous best-selling authors, like nicholas sparks or danielle steel. But after reading this first novella, my opinion is shifting. Not to say that he is my new favourite and i am going to reading all his books, but he is no longer in that throw-away category and at some point in the future i will most likely read another of his books. i will let you know what i think of the other three novellas as i finished them; but so far quite good.10.11.09

lazy sunday...
Yesterday was a CRAZY day at work; with its normal Saturday business and with the computers crashing and time seeming to not go by as fast as it should, it was altogether not my most favourite day at Ed McKay. It left me pretty tired last night and so I am very grateful for a day to recharge and rest and relax and read. I don't really have too much on my agenda today, other than knocking back some of Stephen King's Different Seasons so I can give Mike a more informed position than, "I like it so far. So far being the first ten pages." Em and I received our "Thanks for Banking with Wachovia" Gift Cards yesterday so mayhaps we will do something fun with those. Who can say?
But anyhow, for now I will leave you with some tunes I have been enjoying a lot. 'Scars,' Basement Jaxx's new record is one that I have been spending some time with lately and when it's good its REALLY good, like three of the singles from the album that I've posted below. But the record definitely has some tracks that don't really follow-through on the promise of the singles (I'm looking at you Yoko Ono). But to me Basement Jaxx has always been more of a 'singles band' than anything else (as well as consistently offering excellent music videos). Not to say that 'Scars' as an album isn't worth a listen, because it is and I would recommend it. Just know that it isn't all as good as this:
Feeling's Gone feat. Sam Sparro:
My Turn feat. Lightspeed Champion:
Raindrops (I couldn't find the video for this on YouTube, probably because its kinda NSFW; still an ACE song):

rainy days and bookshelves:
i spent friday and saturday in ATL with my good friend Andrew from college while my fiance + sisters + mom + other college friend went wedding dress shopping (with great success, so i’m told). While they were busy doing that, Dru took me around to some of his favourite hot-spots; Little Five Points, Dekalb Farmer’s Market, Doraville, the wonders of MARTA, and of course, his lovely new apartment.though i rained almost the entire time we were there it was a pretty fun trip and the rain helped add a sort of chill, relaxed vibe to our galavanting across ATL. it was a good time and i look forward to being able to do it again and spending more than 26-ish hours in town.
in other big news, i have come into possession of a bookshelf that emily helped me set up last night and is now sitting beautifully in my freshly cleaned and rearranged room. it is a wonderful sight to behold and a long time coming; now all of my books and dvds have a loverly (and relatively cheap) home. it is really good for me to finally have a place for all of my stuff; feels at little bit more like home. i’ve been staying in the guest room of emily’s sister and brother-in-law’s house for about 5 months now and i needed to sort of make the space my own until my own apartment happens in a couple of months. thus this fabulous bookshelf.
so that was my weekend, in brief, i’m currently partaking in my weekend haunting of Dewey’s, drinking coffee, enjoying the rainy weather, listening to some hot tunes, and updating my blog. and in honor of the ray autumn days of winston-salem and atlanta; i’m working on the ultimate rainy day mix that i will upload in the next couple of days...so stay tuned.
be well.
