wild beasts...

this uk band, which has been getting quite the buzz lately, was one that i initially disliked when they released their debut album, 'limbo, panto', last year. lead singer Hayden Thorpe's falsetto was a little to much for me at times; but when their second album 'two dancers' received even more praise than the first i figured i'd better give them another go. i am very glad i did. the intricate melodies, the vocal trade offs with other member and sometimes lead singer Tom Fleming, the playful lyrics, ALL GOOD.
and so i present wild beasts, make of them what you will; and then give them another chance:
hooting & howling (from two dancers):

the devil's crayon (from limbo, panto):

brave bulging buoyant clairvoyants (from limbo, panto):

all the king's men (from two dancers):

what would i want? sky.

i had a pretty rough day at work...so i am very happy to be home and to be not standing and not spilling coffee on expensive things. chillin' with my fiance and listening to animal collective's newest masterpiece (and the first ever song to legally sample the grateful dead). ace!:

enjoy. relax. listen. sleep well friends.

a loverly day off...

emily and i (finally) started in on the first season of 'mad men' today...which is super good and great and i'm looking forward to seeing how the characters develop. the first three episodes are ace; looking forward to watching more whenever emily gets a chance. other than that, not too much has gone on today. just a very VERY lazy day off, which both of us needed. i still haven't finished king's 'different seasons'...whoops...but i'm still enjoying it very much...about halfway through 'the boy' which is the third novella in the book and one which the movie 'stand by me' was based...still very much looking forward to reading 'battle royale' next.

in music news, two of my favourite bands, beach house and animal collective are releasing new material relatively soon and the first songs off of both of them are AMAZING and have been taking up a lot of my time. beach house's 'norway' i think is a great step forward for them and from what i hear the whole album, teen dream, is colossal. and 'graze,' from ac's 'fall be kind' ep is not the best thing they have ever done but it is certainly one of the joyous and most fun...so without further ado:
beach house::::norway

animal collective::::graze

enjoy!

so this came into ed mckay's today:

totally made my week. i've been a fan of the movie for awhile and i've been wanting a chance to read the book; so i am going to usurp my reading list and dive into this one after 'different seasons'. i'm excited.

also this, via the daily what; terrible voice acting...always funny:

i found this the other day...

courtesy of the npr all songs considered blog: let them sing it for you. project of a swedish student who compiled pretty much every word in the english language from snippets of songs. So all you do is type in a phrase and it 'sings' it for you. hours of fun.
enjoy!

another rainy tuesday:::

i just finished the first novella in king's different seasons: 'rita hayworth and the shawshank redemption' and i definitely enjoyed it much more that i thought i would. i have always written stephen king off as a throw away writer; in the same category as other frivolous best-selling authors, like nicholas sparks or danielle steel. But after reading this first novella, my opinion is shifting. Not to say that he is my new favourite and i am going to reading all his books, but he is no longer in that throw-away category and at some point in the future i will most likely read another of his books. i will let you know what i think of the other three novellas as i finished them; but so far quite good.

i also wanted to leave with the new single from recently 'Best-New-Music'd' band, Bear in Heaven. it is off of their new album 'beast rest forth mouth'...i've really been enjoy it:
